Psychiatric Evaluation

A clinician completing a psychiatric evaluation with a patient

A comprehensive evaluation helps the clinician understand current concerns, medical and psychiatric history, daily functioning, and treatment goals.

A detailed starting point

The combined practices describe psychiatric evaluation as more than a symptom checklist. The clinician may ask about mood, anxiety, attention, sleep, behavior, substance use, medical history, previous treatment, family history, school or work, relationships, and recent stressors.

The goal is to develop a clear clinical picture and discuss appropriate next steps. Recommendations may include psychotherapy, medication, further assessment, medical testing, coordination with another professional, or a different level of care.

What care may include

  • Clinical interview about current concerns and history
  • Review of medical conditions and current medications
  • Screening forms or questionnaires when useful
  • Collateral information from family or other professionals when authorized
  • Laboratory work, physical evaluation, or specialist referral when indicated
  • Discussion of findings and an individualized treatment plan

Care begins with an individualized assessment. Availability, clinical fit, age ranges, location, telehealth eligibility, and treatment recommendations vary by provider. Contact the office to confirm current options.
