Neurocognitive & Functional Assessments

A clinician conducting a neurocognitive assessment

Assessment can help clarify concerns involving memory, attention, executive functioning, behavior, or the use of cognitive skills in everyday life.

Understanding cognitive and functional concerns

CCBH offers neurocognitive screening for changes in memory, attention, thinking, and behavior, including concerns related to dementia or ADHD. Connecticut Psychiatric Partners also offers cognitive functional assessment, which looks at how a person applies cognitive skills to real-world activities.

The type and depth of testing depend on the referral question. A screening visit may lead to treatment recommendations, monitoring, or referral for a more comprehensive evaluation.

What care may include

  • Review of medical, psychiatric, developmental, and functional history
  • Screening of memory, attention, language, reasoning, or executive skills
  • Psychiatric and behavioral assessment when relevant
  • Evaluation of how cognitive abilities affect work, school, safety, or daily tasks
  • Referral for comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation when indicated
  • Explanation of findings, recommendations, and follow-up options

Care begins with an individualized assessment. Availability, clinical fit, age ranges, location, telehealth eligibility, and treatment recommendations vary by provider. Contact the office to confirm current options.
